DRLW Day 1

Here's my idea & today is day 1.

Every morning I will:

D - drink (coffee because I love it and water to hydrate)

R - read (a book, probably about finances because I'm on a journey to save)

L - lift (weights or exercises; just enough to wake me up, actual workouts are in the evenings)

W - write (on this blog; summaries of my day, what I've learned and reflect on how things are going)

I've been tracking my food in the 1st Phorm app inconsistently, on and off for the past few months, but I have learned that I previously had no idea what kind of macros I was eating each day (it was not nearly enough protein) & now I have a rough estimate of what macros look like each meal and that I should aim for 30-50 g of protein each meal. I have 34 lbs to lose! My goal is to build muscle and burn fat, while feeling energized and great! I didn't like that I couldn't easily change the serving sizes to ounces or grams or however I wanted to track each item, so I just switched to a different app, LifeSum, where I can do so! It also shows me a graph of my progress, which I like much better! (visual learner here!)

Drinking coffee - We recently pulled out an old espresso machine that works great so I've been also having espresso or lattes which are great!

Reading - just finished reading Financial Freedom by Grant Sabatier. Great read that opened up my eyes to focusing on the future financially! I have student loans to pay off and a plan to be debt free in the next 2 years! It's a journey but the plan is in place and then I can focus 100% on savings and investments. I'm about to make the biggest student loan payment of my entire life, which is scary and thrilling all at the same time. My goal is to put my head down and make as much money as I can so that I can throw extra money towards those student loans in the next 2 years. The next book I want to read might be whichever is available first at the library, but some on the list are:
The Simple Path to Wealth, Your Money or Your Life, and Quit Like a Millionaire

Lifting, I've been doing consistently for a few weeks now! - chest and back - shoulders and arms - legs and abs - so 3 workouts/week. I hit a new PR for military dumbbell press - 45 lbs! & same for dumbbell benchpress! Shoulder exercises are still in the 10-15 lbs and getting stronger!

Writing; here I am doing it! I actually love writing. In middle school, I won an essay contest about "When Not to Keep a Secret" & I got to go to the awards ceremony at the San Diego Zoo and accept my gift card award, pretty cool : ) Later on in college, I could whip out 10 page papers no problem in a few hours, and usually got A's on them. I enjoyed vlogging a little bit in college, and here I am blogging, as an adult : )

It has been a great year! I moved to Colorado June 25, 2023. I met Matt August 6, 2023 & we have enjoyed quite the adventure of our first year together! A lot has happened; not only did I move to a new state not knowing a single person, I've moved, switched jobs, traveled, adventured, made new friends, started new hobbies and have somewhat rebuilt myself as I continue on in this journey. Here's to day 1 of a new habit; DRL-W!
